Eight hour desk shift, still here

I'm almost through a very long 8 hour desk shift. The first 6 hours were definitely more interesting as I had the company of the ever intriguing Loralee. We made a trip to Safeway earlier today and got some stuff (read: sparkling grapejuice) to drink out of wine glasses while on duty. You will not believe how many side-long glances and double-takes we got from people. It was quite amusing. Also, the ever popular, "what are you drinking?" to which I answer more than once "wouldn't you like to know?" with a sort of flirtatious look.

Eric called me part-way into the shift to tell me his computer doesn't work. Sadness. I hope it starts functioning again soon. However, I did promise to call him at some point today, preferably when he's awake, I'm sure.

We had a somewhat lively night so far. Fortunately nothing we couldn't handle. So Saturday I worked a total of 8 hours, with another 4 hours on Sunday morning. Add that to the rest of the week of over 10 hours, that's going to be a nice paycheck. Granted, that includes two staff meetings and a rotation (the six hours with Lor today). So it's not an average week, not by a long shot. Next week should be slower. Thank goodness.

First Bio exam on Tuesday, I still have to watch a movie for German, and so far I've done absolutely nothing for either class. And then of course there's lots of reading to be done for all the other classes. In other words, I should have done a whole bunch of stuff on Saturday that I didn't feel like doing. Thank goodness I don't have classes on Monday. I've decided that the reserves room in the library with it's new addition of a cafe is perfect for studying as it's quiet and has all the makings of a coffeehouse, which was my favorite place to get stuff done senior year of high school. I decided Davenport Lounge didn't really do it for me because it was too loud and too crowded, even if they still have the best chai and vegan chocolate chip muffins (don't ask) on campus. And I've been looking for the perfect study 'niche' for a while now, granted the plan isn't perfect since I still have to convince myself to actually leave my room and go there.

I think I'm definitely going to honorize my Studies in German Film class. I'm getting really excited about writing a paper examining how German cinema deals with women through the ages. I just ordered Bandits online and should hopefully be getting it soon. I love that film, and the fact that it's in German makes it that much better. Somewhere on the order of greatness of Run Lola Run. Although, I think I prefer Bandits. But I'm hoping to use it in my paper, since it is directed by a woman and is about four women who break out of jail.

Enough about that, my shifts almost over. 25 more minutes. I can last that long. And then I can collapse into bed and sleep for however long I want to. Ok, not quite true, there's a marathon of Dancing with the Stars on at 1 tomorrow. And I've discovered an awesome new show, Rome on HBO. So, obviously I'm not going to get a whole lot of work done tomorrow either. Really glad that I have no classes on Monday.
